Since starting down my minimalist journey I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching and self-discovery. One thing I’ve discovered about myself, is that I love change. I really love change. Whilst I’ve probably always known this and people close to me would say, “well I could have told you that”, it only hit home for me recently.
Once I wrote it down and said it aloud, it made a lot of sense and I could embrace it. I think previously I’ve been fighting that need for change, because it’s not what’s expected or I felt like I would be judged or criticized. “What, you want to move to another country? But you have it so good here, why would you give all that up?” or “Surely you just want to settle down now?”
For me, change is a good thing. It allows me to learn new things and grow as a person, it’s also exciting and keep things fresh and interesting. Change can come in many forms. It can be as small as trying some new food or finding a new way to drive to work. It can be as big as moving to a new country or it can be somewhere in-between, like starting a new hobby. Sometimes a small change is all that’s needed, other times a big change is necessary.
Now that I’ve embraced the fact that I like change and it’s a part of who I am, makes it a lot easier to deal with. The next time I feel that urge to make a change, I can take a step back and make a much better decision.
